Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Introduces EVSC students to lab and field methods used in the study of environmental science. Students with credit for EVSC 205 or EVSC 491W may not take this course for further credit.

COURSE DETAILS:

This course introduces EVSC students to field, laboratory, and data analysis methods in the study of Environmental Science, with a primary focus on field data collection. EVSC305 includes a weekly lecture and lab that will often take place in the forests and creeks surrounding SFU’s campus.

It is not recommended students enroll in other courses immediately before or after their lab section, as transportation will be necessary to get between campus and field locations.

Students with credit for EVSC 205 or EVSC 491W may not take this course for further credit.

COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

  • Collect, record, and synthesize an array of environmental data types and observations
  • Identify and become familiar with methods and instrumentation used in basic environmental site assessment
  • Design and propose methodological approaches to address an environmental problem
  • Develop communication and technical writing skills related to reporting and proposing scientific analysis

4x6” (or larger) Rite-in-Rain notebook or equivalent

Laptop, tablet, or equivalent with Microsoft Office
