Welcome!

Who we are?

We are a group of theorists.  Our research covers a wide range of topics in Quantum Optics and Quantum Information.  Our goal is to make quantum technology practical.

Why do we study quantum?

Why not? Generally, the funcitonality of any technology is determined by the physics of the device. Quantum mechanics is the physics being obeyed by fundamental particles, and it is known to be quite different from the "classical" objects we see every day. As such, quantum devices should provide "new functions" that are now available today.

Is quantum good?

"Yes!" So much so that I want to say, the reality is more complicated. Our job is to answer this question precisely. On one hand, we do have concrete evidence that quantum properties can enhance computational efficiency, ensure communication security, improve sensors' accuracy, and provide many more advantages. However, quantum mechanics is not magic, in many situations it also places limitations on the devices' ultimate performance. Understanding what quantum can and cannot do should be both fundamentally interesting and practically important.

What do we learn so far?

We specicially study a class of quantum systems called harmonic oscillators, which have lots of attractive properties as well as challenges. You can learn more about our works in Research Overview and Research Highlights.

Are we taking students?

Yes! Postdoc, graduate, and undergraduate positions are occassionally available. If you are interested to join us, please contact me directly for more details. You can find my email address in the Members page.
