SFU staff and faculty can apply now for the SFU Community Engagement Initiative (CEI). Grants of up to $10,000 are available to catalyze community-university impact through the practice of respectful, mutually-beneficial research, learning and creative activity.

And this year, up to half of the $120,000 available will go to projects that respond to and help with recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Successful proposals improve and expand SFU’s capabilities to engage with our communities through research, student experiential learning, and knowledge mobilization. Projects build new or strengthen existing mutually beneficial partnerships with SFU’s communities, including non-profit organizations, industry associations, Indigenous communities, and governments.

To date, 119 projects, from each of SFU’s eight faculties, involving more than 70 departments, have received a total of $712,000.

Deadlines for applying

  1. The deadline to apply for regular project funding is May 29, 2020.
  2. Applications for COVID-19 -related projects are being accepted now, and will be evaluated as they are received so the COVID-19 funds can be allocated more quickly.
