Fall 2020 may not look how we imagined it, but SFU is committed to moving forward and keeping the health and safety of our community a top priority.

There will be less people than usual on campus, as most research will continue remotely and the vast majority of courses will be delivered online. For those unable to work or study remotely, here are the top five things SFU is doing to ensure the health and safety of our community members who are coming to campus this fall.

COVID-19 safety requirements

Before resuming activities like research or work that require additional SFU community members to return to campus, a university-approved, unit-specific safety plan is required for that area. The safety plan must comply with WorkSafe BC requirements and demonstrate that physical distancing, enhanced cleaning, compliance monitoring and training will be in place. We have created a step-by-step guide to assist departments with their safe return to campus.

Access to campus buildings will require you to show your SFU ID

Access on our campuses is limited for your protection and the protection of our community.

Current SFU community members with valid SFU identification may gain entry to campus buildings at access controlled points. For types of permitted ID and other frequently asked questions, see the COVID FAQ page.

Additional cleaning and disinfection

Our cleaners are ensuring that SFU premises and high touch points are appropriately cleaned and disinfected to prevent the spread of communicable illnesses. Good hygiene practices are promoted across the university community (e.g., handwashing) and the appropriate hand-cleaning facilities and/or alternatives like alcohol hand rubs are available.

COVID19_Safety Ambassador Team at all three campuses

SFU is launching the COVID19_Safety Ambassador Team (CAT) Program to support ongoing recovery efforts as the university moves through the phased re-opening of our campuses. Through education and friendly reminders, the CATs will help foster a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for our SFU community. Watch for their blue vests that say “SFU Ambassador” at all three campuses starting this September.

COVID-19 Awareness Training modules on Canvas

All SFU community members returning to campus must complete a COVID-19 Awareness Training.

The university will continue to provide guidance for resuming various activities on campus, consistent with the SFU COVID-19 Impact Scale. For more safety guidance, resources and how to report COVID-19-related safety concerns head to the SFU Safety & Risk Services COVID-19 Resources page.
