General Chemistry I CHEM 120 (3)
Builds upon the principles of chemistry to develop problem-solving skills with a focus on learning trends in the periodic table, electronic structure of atoms and molecules, chemical bonding, chemical stoichiometry, the energetics of chemical reactions, and properties of gases, liquids, and solids. This course has the same lecture component as CHEM 121 but no laboratory work. Students who intend to take further courses in chemistry should also take CHEM 125 or alternatively take CHEM 121 instead. Prerequisite: Chemistry 12 with a minimum grade of B, or CHEM 110 or 111 with a minimum grade of C-. Students with credit for CHEM 121 or CHEM 123 may not take this course for further credit. Quantitative/Breadth-Science.
