FASS 100 - STT-Introduction to Higher Education (3)
Introduces students to the history and purpose of higher education and its role in their own goals. Students will practice core academic skills, form good academic habits, and familiarize themselves with the university’s most important resources. Graded on a pass/fail basis.
FASS 201 - FASS Co-op Practicum I (3)
First term of work experience in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Co-operative Education Program. Units for this course do not count towards the units required for an SFU degree. Graded as pass/fail (P/F). Prerequisite: Open only to students accepted to the FASS Co-op Program.
FASS 222 - Academics in FASS (1)
Introduces the basic knowledge and skills required for producing accurate, responsible, and effective academic work in the arts and social sciences. Topics vary with instructor expertise. No prior knowledge of the topic is required. Suitable for students across all disciplines, but designed for students in the arts and social sciences. Students may take this course for credit up to three times if a different topic is taught. Grading will be on a pass/fail basis.
FASS 223 - Finding a Career in the Arts and Social Sciences (1)
Introduces the basic knowledge and skills for FASS students to better adapt and deploy their academics expertise in the workplace. Topics vary with instructor expertise. No prior knowledge of the topic is required. Suitable for students across all disciplines, but designed for students in the arts and social sciences. Students may take this course for credit up to three times if a different topic is taught. Grading will be on a pass/fail basis.
FASS 224 - Arts and Social Sciences in Everyday Life (1)
Introduces ways in which FASS expertise directly informs everyday personal and social issues and challenges. Topics vary with instructor expertise. No prior knowledge of the topic is required. Suitable for students across all disciplines. Students may take this course for credit up to three times if a different topic is taught. Grading will be on a pass/fail basis.

FASS 303 - STT-Critical Information Literacy in the Humanities and Social Sciences (3)
Introduces knowledge and methods necessary to understand and navigate the landscape of information for scholarly research in the humanities and social sciences. Emphasis will be placed on the sociopolitical dimensions of information and knowledge production, and the ways in which systems of power shape everyday information creation, distribution, and access. Prerequisite: 45 units. Students with credit for HIST 303 may not take this course for further credit.
FASS 305 - STT-Centring Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) in Practical Life Settings (1)
Explore topics in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) and their application in workplace, educational, and social settings. The primary objective will be to present the scholarship that has informed JEDI principles in an accessible way and to have you envision applying these in practical life settings. Students will have opportunities to reflect on core JEDI and adjacent concepts. Students may take this course for credit up to three times if a different topic is taught. Grading will be on a pass/fail basis. Students with credit for FASS 805 may not take this course for further credit.
FASS 401 - FASS Co-op Practicum IV (3)
Fourth term of work experience in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Co-operative Education Program. Units for this course do not count towards the units required for an SFU degree. Graded as pass/fail (P/F). Prerequisite: Open only to students accepted to the FASS Co-op Program.
FASS 402 - FASS Co-op Practicum V (3)
Fifth term of work experience in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Co-operative Education Program. Units for this course do not count towards the units required for an SFU degree. Graded as pass/fail (P/F). May be repeated for additive credit. Prerequisite: Open only to students accepted to the FASS Co-op Program.
FASS 499 - STT-FASS Dean's Leadership Seminar (1)
Offers FASS Undergraduate Student Fellows an opportunity to make connections with prominent political, civic and cultural leaders, who will engage students in discussion about their own career trajectories and advise them about how to forge their own career and leadership paths. Graded as pass/fail (P/F). Prerequisite: Open to FASS Undergraduate Student Fellows, who will be selected by the faculty.
