Budget from the Bottom-Up Workshop

The Budget From the Bottom Up Workshop is designed to help you understand, create, and define your company’s financial outlook on the basis from the ground up. Bottom-Up means analyzing and combining each key activity or process to generate the bigger picture. No prior knowledge in finance or accounting required. This workshop is free and Venture Prize competitors are encouraged to attend.

We are organizing pitch practices open to folks at any experience level who are looking to learn from / practice their pitching, and network with like-minded people! It is also a great opportunity for Venture Prize competitor to prepare for your preliminary pitch-off.

Idea Prize Preliminary Pitch-Off

Great startups are built around big vision! The Venture Idea Prize is given to the individual/team demonstrating vision for a great idea for a venture, and setting the stage for turning their idea into a viable opportunity. This award is judged on the quality of both the idea as well as the plan for carrying it out, not necessarily the current business results.  The winner of the award will be announced during the 13th Annual Coast Capital Venture Prize Awards Reception. Competitors will receive details via email.

All pitches are private and will not be publicly broadcast.

Note that Idea Prize prelims originally scheduled for Feb 6th (now Feb 13th).

- THURSDAY, FEB 15

Venture Prize Preliminary Pitch-Off

Competitors will be informed via email of their category placements within a week of applications closing, with more info on timing of their pitch slot.

The top 2-3 teams in each category (up to nine teams in total) from this round will progress to the final pitch-off competition on April 4th.

• February 12 - Category TBD; pitches 4:30-7:00pm (estimate)
• February 14 - R&D Category; pitches 2:00-4:30pm (estimate)
• February 15 - Category TBD; pitches 4:30-7:00pm (estimate)

All pitches are private and will not be publicly broadcast.

THURSDay, MARCH 28 

Idea Prize Finals

Location:  SFU Surrey

The top Idea Prize finalists present their final pitch in person before a panel of judges at SFU Surrey. The Idea Prize winner will be later announced at the Venture Prize Awards Ceremony & Reception.
