Biography

Ben's project aimed to provide a comprehensive rockfall hazard assessment of The Stawamus Chief, located near Squamish, BC. The Chief experienced significant rockfall events over the past number of years and is a popular recreational area. Using remote sensing and numerical modelling, the aim was to discern areas of particularly high risk to climbers, hikers and other recreational users on these geological features and to suggest a possible monitoring regimen to mitigate the risks involved. Remote sensing methods applied included LiDAR, photogrammetry and infrared thermography.

Thesis Project

  • M.Sc.: Rockfall hazard assessment of the Stawamus Chief using multi-temporal remote sensing analysis.
