Supporting SFU’s academic mission—a progress update on the 2019-2024 Academic Plan

January 08, 2024

Our academic plan ensures we are taking the necessary steps to be the university we want to be, today and into the future.

That’s why we developed the current academic plan in 2019. The Provost and VPA portfolio wants to provide exceptional and distinctive academic programming and an outstanding student experience, to continue to grow our world-class scholarship and creativity, advance our mutually beneficial relationships with the community, and contribute to social infrastructure for a better world. This institutional-level academic plan was co-created with the SFU community, building on the academic plans that faculties and their academic units had prepared, as well as other strategic plans.

After the release of What’s Next: The SFU Strategy, an institution-wide roadmap for where we’re going and how we’ll get there as a university, it was time for a final progress update on our Academic Plan 2019-2024 before work begins on the development of a new academic plan this year.

Please have a look at our latest document, which includes many examples of work SFU has accomplished in support of priorities we set when the initial academic plan was developed in 2019.

Also have a look at our latest Institutional Accountability Plan and Report (IAPR). This is an annual overview of the university and its goals and priorities, including vision, priorities, enrollments, and the mechanisms in place to measure quality assurance. This report is required by all post-secondary institutions and is SFU’s response to the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills’ annual letter of direction for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
