Welcome to the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering. We understand that being a graduate student can be exciting and at the same time stressful. To better support you for the duration of your program, we have put together some important and helpful information and resources pertinent to your Master’s or PhD degree!

Updates from the Graduate Program Committee (GPC)

Please read the terms of reference carefully before applying.

1. The purpose of this award is to recognize and provide financial support to graduate students enrolled in the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering.

2. The criteria for this award are:

  • Enrolled full-time in the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at SFU Surrey;
  • Have demonstrated academic excellence in their current graduate program at SEE; and
  • Have actively been involved in their communities

3. Preference will be given to students who are involved in sustainability initiatives, either professional-related activities (organizing conferences, presenting or supporting workshops), or public work to support sustainable development (community-centred activities)

4. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.

5. Applications will be made via the Graduate Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3). Required documents include:

  • Curriculum vitae summarizing scholastic achievements with emphasis on publications (journal and conference) during most recent SEE degree program
  •  A one-page summary of the applicant's involvement in the community as well as an overview of their participation in sustainability initiatives (if applicable), with data on date, time, location, and applicant's tasks and involvement;

6. This award will be granted by the Dean and Associate Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee; upon recommendation of the Chair, Graduate Program Committee in the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering.

The new PhD Minimum Funding policy has been approved by Senate as of December 6, 2023.

This means that all PhD admits starting Fall 2024 will be guaranteed a minimum funding of $28,000/year for their first 4 years (12 terms) of their PhD program.
