Student Project Showcase
The Three Minute Thesis competition challenges graduate students to present their research and its significance in just three minutes and one slide. The competition cultivates students' academic, presentation, and research communication skills, and celebrates exciting graduate research taking place at Simon Fraser University.
2024
SEE graduate students receive top prizes at the 2024 Three Minute Thesis Competition
The 2024 faculty heat was held in-person at SFU's Big Data Hub. A total of twelve graduate students participated in the annual event. SEE MASc students, Omar Nemir and Muhammad Talha Usmani were awarded first place and runner-up.
2023
SEE graduate student wins the 2023 Three Minute Thesis Competition
The annual Faculty of Applied Sciences Three Minute Thesis heat was held virtually with a total of thirteen graduate student presenters from all four schools: computing science, engineering science, mechatronics systems engineering and sustainable energy engineering. SEE MASc students, Hengameh Delbari and Yameena Naqvi were awarded the first-place and runner-up prizes.
2022
SEE graduate student wins the 2022 FAS Three Minute Thesis competition
This competition was held with video presentations made available for public viewing. Judges reviewed and scored each video submission, while the public was invited to vote for their favourite presentation for the People’s Choice Award. SEE MASc student Oz Oren was announced as the first-place winner for his presentation titled "Developing a High Efficiency Wood Burning Stove."
2021
SEE student wins the 2021 FAS Three Minute Thesis competition
In 2021, the FAS heat was held asynchronously, where student presentation videos were posted for online judging. SEE MASc student, Laura Whelan was announced as the first-place winner based on the judges' scores. Her presentation was titled “Thermal Energy Storage for Residential Application."
