Progress Update #1

October 13, 2017

IT Services continues to work on resolving the performance issues on SFU's AEM Authoring server (https://author.sfu.ca).

Currently we are working with the vendor's support team, providing them with background information, and system performance-related snapshots while we continue to look for the root cause of the issue.

We have announced a planned outage this weekend for the Author server while general system maintenance is performed. We will be leveraging that same outage to have a clone of the server created during the same period. That clone will give us an environment in which to attempt to apply various mitigations suggested by Adobe's support team.

One of the challenges of fixing this problem is that AEM's author system is expected to be available 24 hours a day, but because of the very large size of the underlying data (approximately 1.5TB), even simple tests that need to examine the data repository can take a very long time to run.  The clone of the server will help us look for the root cause with little or no further impact to people trying to edit their websites.

We are working on this issue as a top priority.
