SFU Reputation strategy

We collaborate with senior communicators to develop a 5-year reputation strategy for the university. We lead efforts on communication and marketing strategies for SFU’s broad brand building, institutional priorities and initiatives of the president’s office, working within the framework of this Reputation Strategy.

Brand management

We develop and maintain brand guidelines, assets and resources for university-wide use.

We consult and support execution on alignment of specific needs within the brand guidelines.

Communicators Network

We create communities of practice for SFU’s communicators, through presentations, workshops and day-to-day channel communication.

Communication strategy support

We are available to consult and support on overarching faculty or VP portfolio communication strategies.

We give feedback on communication strategies or can lead team workshops to develop strategies. We can also discuss ways C&M can help with executing completed strategies.

Ideally, we meet proactively to discuss the annual communication strategy, both to align activities across the organization and to help C&M prepare the corresponding level of support.

Creative asset development

We provide design, photography and videography services for institutional projects, and consult and support on how to deliver on other creative asset development.

Institutional external-audience channels

We lead strategy, development, and/or amplification of key communications on SFU’s official institutional channels.

We offer social media support and guidance.

We provide support and guidance for the SFU event calendar, as well as digital signage across campuses.

We provide account management and support for Carousel (digital signage), Eventbrite/Livewhale (events), and Hootsuite (social media).

Internal (faculty/staff) communication and channels

We lead strategy, development, and/or amplification of key communications to faculty and staff on SFU’s official internal institutional channels, including broadcast emails, What’s On newsletters and the SFU.ca faculty and staff dashboard.

We provide outreach and guidance to the Communicators Network to amplify content that aligns with institutional priorities.

Issues management

We develop the institutional crisis communication strategy and work directly with SFU’s executive to deliver during issues management and crisis events.

We deliver proactive issues management strategies.

We monitor issues and report to the executive, Deans and Board of Governors.

Marketing (including advertising)

We lead marketing for external-facing broad, brand-building initiatives.

Media relations

We develop SFU’s media strategy: story pitching, SFU media releases, and issues & experts notices for timely topics.

We provide media event strategy and media support for all institutional announcements and openings (including those with government), bringing in partners and collaorators as required.

We offer media training for faculty experts and administrators/leaders who may need to speak about issues/programs.

SFU News

We create and collaborate on all content, including stories and videos, for SFU News.

Web strategy and development

We consult on user experience, visual design, website planning/production, and SFU’s IT processes.

We advise on continuous improvement of the content management system, tools, and templates based on identified and prioritized needs and requirements.
