FAQ
The following is a list of frequently asked questions that we have compiled over the weeks leading up to the conference. If you still have questions after going through this list, please email us at ierg-2004@sfu.ca If you wish to read the archived call for papers criteria click here
Q. I have lost my registration receipt - can I get another one?
A. You may request a receipt by emailing conference_services@sfu.ca
Q. How do I submit my paper for the proceedings? What is the deadline?
A. Click here to submit your paper by the deadline of midnight pacific, August 15, 2004. We are sorry but papers received after that date will not be included.
Q. When I was at the conference I ordered some merchandise but I haven't received it yet...
A. We are having some delays in filling the orders but will ship things ASAP. We appreciate your patience as we resolve these issues.
Q. Could you tell me when Nel Noddings' keynote presentation is?
A. Nel Nodding's keynote speech is scheduled at 8:30 am on Thursday, July 15, 2004.
Q. Is it possible to register just for Nel Noddings' presentation?
A. It is not possible to register just for one presentation, or for one day of the conference. Please visit the registration section of our conference website for details about the options for registration.
Q. Do the presentations room have Internet access?
A. Yes, all rooms at the Coast Plaza Hotel are equipped with Internet access. You must request access in advance so that arrangements can be made.
Q. How can I confirm my room set-up/AV requirements?
A. We will make arrangements for the room set-up / AV requirements you requested when you submitted your proposal. You should have completed this by June 28th.
Q. How many copies of handouts should I make?
A. We are unable to guide you on this matter, as we can not estimate how many people will attend individual presentations.
Q. Are you planning to publish the proceedings of the Imagination & Education Conference, 2004?
A. Yes, we are planning to bring out a CD of the conference proceedings. This will be available free of cost to virtual participants of the 2nd International Conference on Imagination and Education, and on payment for everyone else. The pricing for this is still being decided.
Q. When will these be available?
A. We hope that the CD will by mid-september. In addition, we hope to provide recorded segments from this year's event for purchase via our website some time in the fall of 2004. Please note that you will also be able to purchase, at the conference venue, copies of the recorded presentations by the keynote speaker (Dr. Elliot Eisner) and featured speakers at last year's event.
Q. When do I need to submit my paper for inclusion in the proceedings?
A. If your presentation was accepted for the conference (virtual or face to face), you are eligible to send this to us for inclusion in the conference proceedings. The deadline for this is August 15 th , 2004.
Q.Will you accept a late proposal/workshop for presentation at your conference?
A. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept late proposals for the conference. However, we do hope that you will consider participating in the conference as a delegate.
Q. I was excited about having my proposal accepted, and have sent in my conference fees. Just wondering what's up...?
A. The conference program is up on our website. If it is necessary for us to make any changes to the time/date of presentations or to the AV requests shown on the website, these changes will be communicated to individual presenters by email.
Q. Could I request a timeslot for my paper presentation at IERG?
A. Regrettably, given the number of presentations being offered, we cannot accommodate further individual requests for particular time slots. The program is now being printed.
Q. Our presentation has been accepted for the conference, however, we are having a problem collecting enough funds for registering. Could you consider giving us a discounted registration rate?
A. Regrettably, in the interests of fairness to all participants, we are unable to change our registration fee policies. Please refer to the registration section of the conference website for all the registration options.
Q. Does the Coast Plaza have special room rates for conference participants?
A. Yes. Please refer to the conference website at http://www.sfu.ca/conferences/ierg2004/site.htm for hotel information.
Q. How can I get in touch with other presenters at the conference?
A. A list of confirmed conference participants, including presenters, will be included in the conference package.
Q. How can I arrange a meeting with someone at the conference?
A. Contact them directly or leave a message on the message board that will be located near the registration desk, at the hotel. There will be a few rooms available on occasion for meetings with other participants. Please go to the IERG information desk to find out availabilty.
Q. When will the conference/registration desk be open?
A. Registration Desk Hours will be as follows:
Wednesday ( 14 th ): 3:00 - 6:00 pm
Thursday ( 15 th ): 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
Friday ( 16 th ): 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
Saturday ( 17 th ): 8:00 am - 12 noon.
Q. Can I register on-site?
A. We suggest you register early (see registrations). However it will be possible to register with cash or Visa or Mastercard on-site. Please note that there are no discounts for on-site registration nor may you register for only one day.
Q. I might not be able to make it until the second or third day of the event. Will the conference/registration desk be open only on the first day of the conference?
A. Conference staff will be available to help you with such issues throughout the conference.
Q. Are there restaurants at or near the conference venue?
A. Yes, there are many excellent restaurants near the conference venue. Information about some such choices will be enclosed in your registration folder.
Q. Is there a place for me to make photocopies at or near the conference venue?
A. The hotel has a business centre. Arrangements to make photocopies can be made there .
Q. I'm not staying at the Coast Plaza Hotel. Will there be a space there that I can access to do some work?
A. There is no formal space offered for people not staying at the Coast Plaza. However, it is likely that the hotel you're staying at might offer such services.
Q. Will there be information on the work of the IERG available on site?
A. Yes, information on the IERG and it's work will be available at the conference. There will be pamphlets, our newsletter, etc. available at the registration desk. You could also talk with various IERG associates at the conference if you like.
Q. Will translation services be available at the event?
A. Unfortunately we are unable to afford the cost of such services. We hope to provide this service in future years.
Q. Are the rooms at the conference venue easily accessible to people with disabilities?
A. There are elevators to the conference level available from both the parking level and the lobby level. The rooms will be set up a variety of formations such as roundtables, row seating etc. If you require particular or specific types of access, please contact the Coast Hotel and confirm any arrangements that need to be made for you.
