About ToxTalks Symposium

Building upon the success of past events, the sixth annual ToxTalks graduate student symposium is a one-day event on March 7th, 2020 being hosted at SFU, bringing together graduate students interested in the interdisciplinary research field of drugs, carcinogens, and environmental pollutants in humans and in the environment.

This event will be an opportunity for graduate students from Canada and United States to present their research and network with other students who are engaged in similar fields of research. The event will feature graduate student presentations, a keynote speaker, and a fun evening social event.

Come attend ToxTalks Symposium 2020!

All graduate students are strongly encouraged to present their research. Whether students are beginning their graduate studies and looking for feedback on research proposals, or are about to graduate, this event is tailored for students at every stage in their academic career.  We also welcome students from a broad range of disciplines, from cellular and molecular scales, to human-population epidemiological studies, to global ecosystems scales, and everything in between. This interdisciplinary event is all about the students.

Interested faculty, staff, and other external environmental toxicology and human health professional community members are also invited to meet and chat with students, and to learn about graduate research happening in this part of the world.

Guiding Concepts behind ToxTalks

  • Organized for graduate students by graduate students
  • Engage and connect graduate students from various drug/carcinogen/pollutant-related research groups across British Columbia and western North America
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and networking, and foster community between multiple
departments and research groups across the region
  • Expose and expand horizons of all attendees beyond individual research focus

Goals of ToxTalks

  • Provide graduate students an opportunity to present their research and to ask questions to peers
    also engaged in contaminant-related research
  • Facilitate networking between toxicology students in the region, faculty, staff, and other
external toxicology-interested community members (e.g., government and industry)
