Aspect One important factor in ski resort development is the aspect. In a study conducted by Serbulent Ocal and Nurunnisa Usul on winter tourism in the Kars-Sarikamis region of Turkey, they suggested that northeast and northwest slopes are ideal for snow accumulation and keeping the snow for longer periods of time. This project included these measures as well. |

Aspect was determined from the BC DEM using the module SURFACE in IDISI. Projection, columns/rows and resolution were adjusted to those of the DEM. The module FUZZY was applied to the aspect image to show on a scale of 0-255, areas of suitability, 0 being the least suitable and 255 being the most suitable. A user-defined curve was applied due to the nature of the fuzzy analysis. Prefered aspect was between 90 and 270 degrees, which translates as E to W respectively. Numbers from 0 to 360 were chosen to represent levels of suitabiltiy between 0 to 255. |
