Resources to support your success

As a Graduate Liberal Studies (GLS) student at Simon Fraser University (SFU), you have access to a number of student resources and valuable services.

Medical coverage

As a Graduate student at SFU, you are a member of the Graduate Student Society, which advocates on your behalf, and provides a number of valuable services to you, including the Graduate Student Benefit Plan, which provides eligible students with Health and Dental insurance coverage. 

The Plan is designed to provide many important services and cover expenses not covered by a basic health care plan (e.g. the British Columbia Medical Services Plan), such as prescription drugs, dental care, travel health coverage, vision care, and more. Health & wellness

Health & counselling

SFU Health & Counselling provides support and services to all SFU students regarding physical or mental wellbeing. They have a team of physicians, psychologists and clinical counsellors available to support your needs.

SFU’s Office of Graduate Studies oversees all graduate matters such as admissions, defences, awards and scholarships. They also provide support to faculties and schools when required.

Writing support

GLS Mentors 

GLS has mentors available to help students develop their writing. The Simons Chair and Simons Fellow can help with writing a paper for a course or with graduation options including extended essays and projects.

Student Learning Commons

The Student Learning Commons offers many workshops on specific aspects of research and writing. The SLC also offers information on different aspects of researching and writing.

SFU Vancouver Research Commons

In 2020, a new Vancouver Research Commons was created on the seventh floor of Harbour Centre to support SFU graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and other researchers.

An SFU Librarian, Baharak Yousefi, specifically supports the Graduate Liberal Studies program. She is available, by appointment, at the Harbour Centre in Belzberg Library.
