From Ms. Amanda Raume, Associate Director, Advancement, Faculty of Science:

Great news! I am happy to inform you that we raised $4,995 during the SFU Campus Campaign for Math Catcher! That money will be matched completely by the Dean and by the anonymous donor. It also means that in addition to the money raised for Math Catcher prior to the Campus campaign, we have maxed out the money from the Math department.

I am e-mailing you on behalf of the Math Catcher program to appeal to you to consider making a donation to Math Catcher during the Campus Campaign. As you might already know, the Math Catcher program is doing incredible things in its work to engage Aboriginal youth in Mathematics and open up doors to professions that are otherwise closed to Aboriginals without Math backgrounds. The work that Math Catcher has done over the last three years was made possible through a grant from NSERC PromoScience that runs out in December of this year.

We need the help of people like you to continue this program. We are very lucky that this year there is an unprecedented opportunity for your donations to be matched and leveraged. The Dean of Science will be matching donations this campus campaign, the Math Department will be matching donations to Math Catcher and an anonymous donor has recently stepped forward to match donations during the campus campaign as well (this great news hasn't yet been shared with the rest of the faculty!). That means that if you donated $250 to Math Catcher, your donations will be quadrupled and mean $1,000 will go to Math Catcher. Math Catcher operates on a budget of just over $20,000 a year so if we can raise just $5,000 we can ensure that the program will be funded another year. What's more, you can make a pledge to Math Catcher over 3 years and the amount you commit will be matched immediately.

I believe in this program myself and will be directing my Campus Campaign donation to Math Catcher. I hope that you will consider making a contribution as well. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with me. Also, I do suggest that you act quickly if you would like to contribute. As I mentioned, the rest of the campus community has not yet heard about the anonymous donor who is committing to match up to $50,000 in donations during the campus campaign and I expect that money, and the Dean's $49,000 in matching to be used up quickly. We wanted to give those who might be interested in Math Catcher an early notification to ensure that if you donate it will be quadrupled.

Thanks!

Amanda
