During December 27 and 28, GeoBurst, a not for profit, math education enrichment initiative led by Alejandro Erickson and one of the major collaborators of the Math Catcher Program, held a workshop at Science World, Vancouver, BC. Stephani Monkman, Jessica Huchmitt, and Veselin Jungic were among other volunteers supporting this great Alejandro's achievement.

Ms. Shirley Alphonse, an elder from the T'Sou-ke Nation, has kindly agreed to tell the Small Number and the Old Canoe story in the Sencoten language.

The premiere of the newest Small Number's adventure is scheduled for Friday, December 7. The SFU Public Affairs and Media Relationship Department posted this announcement.

Four members of the Math Catcher Outreach Program, Alejandro Erickson, Veselin Jungic, Mark MacLean, and Simon Roy participated in the First Nations Math Education Workshop that was held in Banff, Alberta, between November 19-23. The 3rd Annual Aboriginal Students in Math and Science workshop hosted about 90 students and teachers accros the province. In words of Mr. William Lindsay, Director of the SFU Office for Aboriginal Peoples, "Great job today!! I think the math event keeps getting better and better. Are we able to continue this event in future years?"

Ms. Betty Wilson from Powell River wrote, "Thank you so much for the day. i found it to be extremely stimulating.  Our grade 11 student asked if he could be considered to go again next year when you hold the workshop! That says you accomplished what you set out to do."

Ms. Sheena Falconer from Port Alberni wrote, "Just a quick note to say that today was absolutely wonderful - the students seemed to have a good time. They took part in the math conference for the day, which included presentations by some amazing mathematicians. They also went on a tour with Jessica Humchitt to the biology lab."

The developers of an SFU FNS 101 Distance Education course that will be launched in Spring 2013 are considering including Small Number animated films among informative readings/ media that are suitable for an international audience at an introductory level. In the words of Michelle Vandermoor: "As we are currently gathering resources on the topic of language and language reviltilization, we were wondering if we could get permission to use Small Number Counts To 100 (in Blackfoot and Cree). The video would be a great way for students from around the world to be introduced to these languages."
