THREE SFU EDUCATORS RECOGNIZED WITH EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARDS

The 2021 winners of the Excellence in Teaching Awards are Diana Cukierman, Sarah Walshaw and Nadine Wicks.

These three inspiring educators, nominated by faculty and students, are recognized for their enthusiastic and innovative teaching, their ability to stimulate students to think creatively and critically, and their demonstrated caring for student learning.

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2021 SFU STAFF ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNERS

SFU’s annual Staff Achievement Awards recognize staff members for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the university or the community. The awards are a way to showcase some of the great work being done at SFU and in the community by outstanding staff members.

Cloud computing has become essential to the IT industry with the shift to working from home, but the energy costs of such operations can be massive.

SFU Computing Science professor Jiangchuan Liu and his team have found a way to make cloud computing more efficient and energy-saving with Hylics, a virtualization software architecture that enables quick and energy-saving execution of intense computational workloads.

SFU WI-FI SECURITY CERTIFICATE RENEWAL ON MARCH 7

To continue to provide stable and secure Wi-Fi at SFU, the Wi-Fi security certificate will be updated on March 7 across all SFU networks and campuses. This will impact all devices currently configured to the SFUNET-SECURE and eduroam Wi-Fi networks. If your device prompts you to accept a new SFU Wi-Fi security certificate, or to re-enter your SFU ID and password, please do so to ensure your Wi-Fi certificate is updated.

 

Please note that the eastbound traffic lane of University High Street between Tower Road and the intersection with University Crescent (East) will be closed on Thursday, March 3 to accommodate exterior building pressure washing.

Looking for books, articles or other resources that aren't in the university's collection? Submit an InterLibrary Loan request and SFU Library will obtain them for you for free.

TOME: PASSAGES FROM BLACK HISTORY

Discover TOME: Passages from Black History, an installation by Interactive Arts & Technology instructor Chantal Gibson.

Made with coffee and cotton, two products that drove the economy of the African slave trade, the work imagines a history—fragmented, folded, twisted, entwined—bound into a topographical and sensorial landscape of memory.

 

February 28 - March 31

Participate in free cultural, academic and professional activities during the 12th edition of SFU's Printemps de la francophonie. This year's theme is "Lumière sur nos communautés" (Spotlight on our communities).

The programming is offered in French and many activities are available for people with little or no French language skills.
