RAPID ANTIGEN TESTS NOW AVAILABLE AT SFU

SFU has received a one-time shipment of rapid antigen tests to support the continuity of on-campus learning, instruction, research and operations. All students, faculty and staff currently attending campus in person are eligible for one test kit, containing five rapid tests. Tests should be used only when experiencing symptoms.

Distribution of test kits for faculty and staff is managed at the unit level, so contact your supervisor to receive your test kit and please refrain from visiting a student distribution site. 

 

UNIVERSITY NEWS

SFU RESEARCHERS HELP DEVELOP WORLD'S FIRST AUTONOMOUS AGRICULTURE PLANNING SOFTWARE

As part of a Canada Digital Technology Supercluster project, SFU geography professors Bing Lu and Margaret Schmidt will develop methods of monitoring crop and soil health using remote sensing over the course of the next year at numerous test sites in Western Canada.

 
 

CELEBRATION WEEK FOR LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY

The first-ever Multilingual SFU Week (February 7–11) proved to be a celebration of the linguistic diversity of the SFU community. Activities took place on all three campuses and online, bringing together partners from across the university as well as Fraser International College.

 

EXPLORING THE RIGHTS, VALUES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE AND HERITAGE RESEARCH

George Nicholas, alongside Indigenous collaborators, teachers and friends, has contributed in significant ways to Indigenous heritage sovereignty locally and globally for decades. His journey to decolonize archaeology and other related heritage studies is based on a foundational principle that heritage is a basic human right and that Indigenous heritage is inseparably linked to issues of identity and rights and title.

HealthBots, salad robots and smart vending, oh my! SFU is home to a variety of smart-vending options that aim to provide innovative solutions that support on-demand access to healthy food and personal care items on our campuses.

UPCOMING IT OUTAGES

Reminderthe following services will be unavailable on the listed dates to accommodate system upgrades and program launches.

  • AEM Author (author.sfu.ca) will be unavailable on Wednesday, February 23, between 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. All AEM websites will continue to be publicly accessible on and off-campus. Please email cms-help@sfu.ca if you're experiencing any issues after the scheduled outage windows.
  • Access to FINS and myINFO will be unavailable from February 24 – February 27, to accommodate the Research Enterprise Systems (RES) Program – Project 1 implementation and launch. Access will resume on February 28.

Updates on the outages will also be posted on Twitter (@SFU_IT).

 

The Nora and Ted Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy recognizes people who are doing work that challenges complacency. The recipient is selected for decidedly unconventional and distinctly untraditional work that provokes a wide audience and will receive a cash award of $5,000 and make a public presentation. Nominations are extended to Tuesday, March 15. Please email the Office of the Vice-President, Academic at vpacad@sfu.ca if you have questions.

This Wednesday, February 23 is Pink Shirt Day—a reminder for all of us to wear pink, show compassion and help put a stop to bullying. Tomorrow, and every day, let's practise kindness and lift each other up. Did you know SFU has a new Bullying and Harassment Central Hub? Visit their website to learn about your rights and responsibilities, and access supports and services.

Wear white at Saturday's basketball games. It’s the West Gym Whiteout at our final home games before playoffs and we’re tossing t-shirts to our fans in the crowd. Women's game tips-off at 5:15 p.m. and the men's game follows at 7:30 p.m. Free admission and parking in West Mall for SFU and FIC students, faculty and staff with valid ID.
