Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

The second studio course in a series designed for students pursuing a major or extended minor in dance. Expands on the work undertaken in CA (or FPA) 220-4 Contemporary Dance III and aims to develop technical facility in movement and acquaint the student with form and style in contemporary dance. (studio) Students with credit for FPA 221 may not take this course for further credit.

COURSE DETAILS:

The second studio course in a series designed for students pursuing a major or extended minor in dance. Expands on the work undertaken in FPA 220-4 Contemporary Dance III and aims to develop technical facility in movement and acquaint the student with form and style in contemporary dance. (studio)

COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

On completion of this course the student should be able to:

1.    Confidently execute a range of movement sequences that characterize the form and style of the techniques being taught.

2.    Understand these exercises from their complex cognitive, kinesthetic, and affective perspectives.

3.    Be able to convey the material to others so that they can understand and accomplish similar objectives.

Grading

NOTES:

Grades are determined through the instructors observation of in-class work throughout the semester. Students are expected to be on time for every class, prepared to work and train in a professional manner displaying discipline and respect for their peers. Grades will also be based on the student’s development and progression throughout the course. This grade will reflect the dancers conduct in the studio, their technical development, work ethic and attendance, the ability to demonstrate movements with confidence and skill while utilizing good alignment, musicality and spatial awareness. Attendance is mandatory.

Dress in a manner that allows the instructor to see your movements clearly.
