Description

COURSE DETAILS:

Looking around us today, the Global Indigenous might seem self-evident. The UN adopts a Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous athletes compete in a World Indigenous Games. Indigenous communities in Southeast Asia declare solidarity with residential school survivors in North America. But how much traction does the concept have in the past? Is there a Global Indigenous history? Or is there merely a collection of regional histories about Indigenous peoples?

Mobilizing a variety of teaching methods, engaging materials written by Indigenous scholars, and welcoming several Indigenous speakers, this seminar begins in Asia and works outwards to test the historical concept of the Global Indigenous. Students will gain expertise in an Asian region of their choice while collaborating on an historical question global in scope.

SFU’s Academic Integrity web site http://www.sfu.ca/students/academicintegrity.html is filled with information on what is meant by academic dishonesty, where you can find resources to help with your studies and the consequences of cheating.  Check out the site for more information and videos that help explain the issues in plain English.

Each student is responsible for his or her conduct as it affects the University community.  Academic dishonesty, in whatever form, is ultimately destructive of the values of the University. Furthermore, it is unfair and discouraging to the majority of students who pursue their studies honestly. Scholarly integrity is required of all members of the University. http://www.sfu.ca/policies/gazette/student/s10-01.html
