Locksmith Services:

SFU Burnaby manages its mechanical access control devices internally. Primarily locksmith services include:

  1. Cutting keys for doors, cabinets, desks, padlocks, or most other applications, on request
  2. Installation of physical security devices such as latch-cover plates, deadbolts and high-security locks
  3. Re-keying master-key systems to meet the needs of departments

Please note that we are only able to assist with cabinet & desk locks that meet the university standard which includes KI (Kruger International), National & CES. Our lockshop is able to cut keys for most standard keys used at SFU but in some cases departments may have to contact the office furniture supplier.

For locksmith services please fill out a Locksmith Work Order form including contact person, location and account information

Note: The locksmith foreman schedules work based on urgency. For information about work orders previously submitted please call 778.782.7249.

SECURITY OPERATIONS CENTRE:

  1. Provides 24/7 CCTV, alarm monitoring and dispatch services for the Burnaby campus.

NOTE: Access Control and locksmith services in Surrey & Vancouver are provided by the Facilities Services department.

Managing access for a community with a peak population in excess of 20,000 people is not without its challenges. We employ a mix of mechanical (locks and keys) and electronic (access cards and alarms) devices to meet our needs. We continue to work together with community stakeholders to reach needs-based solutions that keep our primary goals in mind.

2018 Comprehensive Key Audit

For the first time in SFU's history a complete audit of all keys has begun. The Burnaby Campus alone has over 55,000 door keys and several thousand keys exist at both the Surrey & Vancouver campuses.

All key holders will be asked to provide details including the key code and serial number of each and every SFU door key. Access Control has created an information sheet to help key holders understand what to look for on their keys and in cases where the key code or serial number is missing, the holder is asked to advise of of this too. Any questions related to the audit may be submitted via email to access_control@sfu.ca.
