Parking & Directions

SFU does not own or manage the parking lots located at the Central City Mall, home of the Surrey campus. Only vehicles with valid paid parking are authorized to park near campus.

Mall parking is for retail shoppers only. There is no free parking for SFU Surrey. The three hour time limit for parking is for shoppers only. SFU students and visitors do not qualify in this category of parking.

Visitor Parking

Visitor parking is available on level P5 of the parkade for guests coming to SFU Surrey for lectures and special events. Parking costs $1 per hour, or $7 for the entire day from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Late night rate is $4 from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Signs are posted indicating the pay parking area on P5. The pay meters are in the elevator vestibule on P5. The pay meters accept coins or credit cards. There is also a Pay By Phone option. Instructions are posted at the pay meter.

Student Parking

SFU Surrey has been provided a limited number of parking stalls for students.

Parking for students is assigned via lottery each semester.

Your student number and SFU email ID are required fields on the application form.

Note: You must be enrolled in courses during the current semester at Surrey campus to qualify for parking. All applications will be checked and any submissions that do not meet these qualifications will be eliminated from the lottery.

Applications are accepted for only one vehicle per driver. If a vehicle is entered in the lottery by multiple applicants, all those entries will be eliminated from the lottery.

Successful applicants will be notified by email prior to the beginning of the semester and will be directed on where, when and how to pay for parking.

Parking costs $100.00 per semester.

Parking is restricted to levels P3 and P4 in the West Parkade at Central City Mall and the Rooftop parking. Vehicles may be subject to a fine or towing if parked outside the designated parking areas.

For students taking classes in Continuing Studies, Lifelong Learning or part-time diploma and degree programs which are scheduled after 5:00 p.m. weekdays or any time on weekends, pay parking is available by lottery each semester.

There are other pay parking lots in the vicinity of Central City and SFU Surrey.

Parking may be purchased by the hour or by the day at these locations:

  • Safeway at 104 Avenue and King George Boulevard
  • 7-11 & CIBC at 102 Avenue and King George Boulevard
  • City Hall at 104 Avenue and University Drive
  • Roller Rink at City Parkway and 102 Avenue

Commuting Options

For students that are unsuccessful in the lottery there are several Translink Park n Ride locations available. Some parking is free; however please read the signage posted at each location for rates, hours of operation, liability notices, etc. Go here to see these locations:

Staff Paid Parking

Parking is available to full-time faculty and staff through the Facilities Services office, extension 27496. Parking is typically valid for one calendar year (May 1 to April 30); however, arrangements can be made for partial year options,  by the semester or by day.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS)

Each station has parking and plug ins for 2 vehicles. Parking spots and signage are painted bright green for easy identification.

One station is in front of the mall on the surface lot. The other station, closest to SFU, is on the rooftop parkade across from the rotunda entrance to the mall.

The stations have view screens with step by step instructions. A tap and go credit card from Visa, MasterCard, Discovery or others is required to activate the system and release the charge nozzle. No credit charges will be applied to the card. The electric charge is free and parking is allowed in that spot for up to 3 hours.
