Ultra cold atoms

Ultra cold atoms trapped in optical lattices are very versatile systems in which experimentalists have control over many different prameters in their system, including hopping and interaction strengths in real time. This makes these systems very attractive to theorists trying to understand the interplay of strong interactions and out of equilibrium dynamics in quantum systems. In my group we have been studying the out of equilibrium dynamics of the Bose Hubbard model, a minimal model for interacting bosons on a lattice. Most recently we have been studying the speed at which correlations in the model spread across the lattice after a quench.
