Students: TechBytes Program Seeking new Technical Peer Eductors ( TPES ) and Mentors for the spring term
The TechBytes Program is part of the larger Peer Education Program at SFU , which is run through the Student Learning Commons. The Peer Education Program provides learning support services for SFU students. TechBytes aims to leverage the power of SIAT's peer community to enhance the learning experience of SIAT students and students enrolled in SIAT courses. Technical Peer Educators and Mentors are needed to share their software / technical knowledge with the SIAT community. The program also offers opportunities for personal and professional development for the TechBytes Peer Educators / Mentors such as professional training, event coordination, public speaking, project management, and many more.
There are two ways for you to get involved with the program, as a TPE or as a Mentor. The two options are outlined below:
- Technical Peer Educators have a greater responsibility to the program, are part of the larger peer education program at SFU , receive formal training, do one-on-one consultations and take on a leadership role with an assigned aspect of the program (such as running the weekly skills expo). We are looking for applicants from the Design, Media and Informatics tracks. TPEs receive a $500.00 honorarium and must commit to a minimum 50 hours over the 13 week semester. Students with a strong portfolio and broad skill set are preferred.
- TechBytes Mentors are part of the student ambassador program at SFU . They may make as large or as small a commitment to the program as their schedule allows. Being a mentor is a great way to get involved, receive some training and give back to your community. Mentors do not receive an honorarium, hours contributed count toward the student ambassador program. To find out more about the student ambassador program, go here http://www.surrey.sfu.ca/sa/
We are presently seeking 3 Technical Peer Educators. We are looking for applicants from the Design, Media and Informatics tracks. Students with a strong portfolio and broad skill set are preferred. An $500 honorarium is provided for 50 hours of participation over the course of the term.
Any SIAT student is welcome to get involved as a student mentor. Students will receive rewards through the Student Ambassador Program ( http://www.surrey.sfu.ca/sa/ ).
You will be expected to attend weekly meetings, and be responsible for tasks that contributes to the direction and success of the program. All applicants must be free for the Wednesday 12:30 - 2:30 block.
