Post-Doctoral Fellow
CMHC-SSHRC Funded Research Project
Simon Fraser University
We are seeking applications for a half-time post-doctoral position for “Aging in the Right Place: Building Capacity for Promising Practices that Support Older People Experiencing Homelessness in Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver,” funded by a CMHC-SSHRC Partnership Grant.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Atiya Mahmood at Simon Fraser University’s Department of Gerontology and collaborate with an international team of scholars. Using a community-based participatory approach, our research team is conducting mixed methods evaluations of promising practices of shelter/housing to determine which promote aging in the right place.
We are particularly interested in recent or soon-to-be doctoral graduates with strong community-engaged research skills looking to enhance their qualitative and quantitative skills and scholarship through publication in the areas of aging, housing, and homelessness. While the successful candidate will work together with an international research team, they must also be able to work independently and creatively.
Applicants can be from any discipline but must be familiar with gerontology, health sciences, social work, and/or urban planning literature and techniques. Proficiency in English is required.
The successful candidate will be based out of the Department of Gerontology at SFU’s Harbour Centre campus in downtown Vancouver with some flexibility. The salary for this half-time position is $40,725.40 per year (0.5 FTE), inclusive of 17.5% benefits (statutory and extended health). This is a 1.0-year position.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Simon Fraser University is committed to employment equity and encourages applications from all qualified women and men, including visible minorities, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, and LGTBQ-identified persons.
