Our approach to Biology spans a wide breadth of disciplines that allows for integration across all levels of life, from molecules to ecosystems. From the newest medical breakthroughs to the latest discoveries about the natural world, biology is relevant to so much in our everyday lives. Solving the pressing environmental challenges we face calls for understanding of many areas of biology, such as conservation biology, ecology, ecotoxicology and physiology. As a student, you’ll benefit from diverse and experiential research opportunities and laboratory courses that provides exposure to a wide range of academic opportunities early in their degree.

Discover what sets Biology apart

  • We offer the greatest diversity of lab-based courses, which provide experiential and skills-based learning.
  • Our programs provide flexibility that allow students to get credit for undergraduate research, studying at Bamfield Marine Science Center, and more.
  • Our Ecology, Evolution, Conservation concentration meets the course requirements for BC’s RPBio (Registered Professional Biologist) designation.

A WELL-ROUNDED BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

“SFU Biology department is the most well-rounded Biology department, in that you can not only take lectures and labs but you take intro courses in statistics and computer science so it gives you real world applications for graduate school or applying for jobs in the future, and it’s something that a lot of other universities don’t really focus on.”
