Crowdmark on Canvas Cloud

Crowdmark has introduced a new method to connect Canvas courses using module items. The old method where you could import courses directly by visiting app.crowdmark.com will be phased out by Crowdmark.

Instructors and students can connect their Canvas courses to Crowdmark by using the Crowdmark Module Item. By accessing Crowdmark with this method, Canvas can pass or sync information about the course to Crowdmark.

Some Crowdmark features requires that instructors and students access Crowdmark through the module item, such as importing the course, roster syncing, grade syncing and more.

Simply visiting app.crowdmark.com on a browser will not work.

Above is an example of the Crowdmark Module Item after it has been set up by the instructor.

NOTES

  • Instructors still need to manually sync the roster to reflect student adds and drops. This is not done automatically. Grading sync continues to work the same way as before. Be sure to access Crowdmark through the Crowdmark Module Item to sync roster and grades.
  • Instructors should also inform their students to access Crowdmark through the Crowdmark Module Item. Students are still notified via email when a new assessment is sent out but they cannot access Crowdmark from email sent by Crowdmark.
  • To switch between the old Canvas (On-premise) and new Canvas (Cloud), select from the drop-down menu when viewing Courses in Crowdmark. See How to switch between old Canvas and new Canvas.

How to set up Crowdmark on my course

1. Navigate to Modules in your course. Then, select + to add an item to a module.

2. From the drop down menu, select External Tool.

3. Select Crowdmark from the list of external tools.

4. Select Add Item.

5. You will see a new item called Crowdmark. Publish this module item and inform your students to access Crowdmark through this module item. Accessing Crowdmark through this method allows Canvas to pass and sync information about the course to Crowdmark.

6. You may be asked to allow Crowdmark to access your Canvas account. Select Authorize.

7. Congratulations! You should see your course on Crowdmark. From here, you can sync your student roster, sync grades and create assessments.

How to fix errors when opening the Crowdmark Module Item

Some browsers have enhanced security settings and will refuse to open the Crowdmark Module Item directly in Canvas. If you or your students are encountering this error, set up the module item to open as a new tab.

1. Select  on the module item. Then, select Edit.

2. Select Load in a new tab. Then, select Update.

3. Now, when opening the Crowdmark Module Item, there will be a button to Load Crowdmark in a new window.

How to switch between old Canvas and new Canvas

2. Select which Canvas instance you wish to switch to.
