Troubleshooting/FAQ
How do I cross-list my courses?
Instructors will need to contact IT Services to cross-list their course.
For each of the courses instructors wish to cross-list, have the courses on-hand or create them using the Start a New Course tool. Then, request IT Services to combine them by submitting a ticket to Canvas - Request Help.
See Creating a new course shell: cross listing.
Why does my course shell have no students?
Credit Courses
Students will appear in the course shell within 24 hours upon creation.
If you still don't see your students in your course after 24 hours, you may not be using the official course shell. Submit a ticket to Canvas - Request Help for additional assistance.
Non-credit Courses
Migrating a non-credit course does not carry over any users. You will need to re-add students, designers, observers and other instructors. See How to migrate Users to another Course if you need to move a large number of students.
The student I added to my course was removed. Why?
Credit course shells should have at least two sections that are automatically generated. If the users you're adding are automatically removed, you're adding them to the incorrect section. Be sure to select the longer-named section (with the course title). Instructions can be found at Adding people to the course.
Can I create Sandbox courses in Canvas Cloud?
Yes, you can create a sandbox course using the Start a New Course tool. It is located on the top-right area of your dashboard.
Why can't I connect my Canvas Cloud course to Crowdmark?
Crowdmark has introduced a new method to connect Canvas courses using module items. The old method where you could import courses directly by visiting app.crowdmark.com will be phased out by Crowdmark.
For instructions on how to use the new method using the Canvas module item, visit: https://www.sfu.ca/canvas/crowdmark/
Where is self-enrolment for my Canvas Cloud course?
In some cases, your course won't have the option to enable self-enrolment on through course settings in Canvas Cloud. If you wish to enable self-enrolment on your course, submit a ticket to Canvas - Request Help for assistance.
