About Alison:

Alison works as the executive assistant at the Community Futures Central Kootenay in Nelson BC, where she works with the executive director and handles communications for the organization. She also volunteers as a restorative justice facilitator in the Nelson Police Department’s Restorative Justice Program.

Alison enrolled in the CED program to gain an exciting and refreshing take on community economic development and the innovative ways it can be applied in communities. She plans to take what she learns and brings it back to her community and work to help rebuild the economic systems to support a healthier world.

Project:

Alison developed a blueprint for a project that aims to help single parents living below the poverty line in Nelson, B.C. through extending the lifecycle of clothing. In action, this project would employ single parents at a livable wage and provide necessary training and development to repair, repurpose and resell used clothing items. Alison hopes that in addition to directly benefiting employees and their families, this project will also benefit the customers who seek affordable, high-quality options and want to support a socially and environmentally responsible organization that benefits the planet.
