Will George

Town of Smithers

Will is passionate about bringing people together towards community-orientated projects. Often this is building on the pre-existing assets within the community and the people that call it home. Prior to working in Economic Development, Will earned his Economics and Political Science degree from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. This education and experience managing non-profit organizations in the BC interior built a foundation for Will before travelling North to Prince George to start his Economic Development career.

Will has worked in various municipalities from Wels and Lytton to Coquitlam and Kamloops. For six years Will managed the Economic Development, Communications, and Tourism departments with the City of Merritt, worked on downtown revitalization projects, industrial land development and established the city tourism department.

Today Will continues to work in Economic Development across Canada, the United States and Australia. As a guest speaker for conferences and classrooms, Will’s areas of focus include BR&E, Placemaking and destination development. In a volunteer capacity, Will is an active committee member of the International Economic Development Council and on the board of the BC Economic Development Association. Will has recently joined the Town of Smithers team as their new Economic Development Officer, to grow the thriving north.
