Human Rights Office

The Human Rights Office (HRO) is a private and welcoming space that provides SFU students, faculty and staff with advice, support and education services on human rights.

Here are some of the ways the office can support you during your time at SFU.

Consultations

  • The Human Rights Office Director offers consultations to students, faculty and staff who want to discuss their human rights-related concerns and receive impartial, confidential advice.
  • The HRO Director will talk through the situation with you, answer any questions you may have, and work with you to resolve your concerns.
  • If filing a complaint makes sense for your situation, then the HRO Director will help you navigate that process.

Advising

  • The HRO Director provides human rights-related legal advice to faculties departments, units and programs at SFU.
  • If you're a faculty or staff member looking for guidance on human rights in relation to a policy, project or a new initiative, please reach out to our office.

Education

  • From offering educational guides on the HRO website to workshops and training for students, faculty and staff, we help to educate the SFU community on issues related to human rights and conflict resolution.

Here at the Human Rights Office, we believe that everyone should be empowered to live, work and learn fully, free from discrimination and discriminatory harassment.
