POLICY REVIEW: GP19 EMPLOYMENT EQUITY
The Employment Equity Policy (GP 19) governs employment equity at Simon Fraser University. The policy ensures that no individual is denied access to employment opportunities for reasons unrelated to ability or qualifications, such as gender or race. Amendments to GP 19 express our ongoing commitment to equitable employment and reflect current applicable legislation and updated roles and job titles. We invite you to learn more about the proposed policy updates and provide your feedback by April 3, 2025.
VICE-PROVOST AND ASSOCIATE VICE-PRESIDENT, LEARNING & TEACHING
Under academic policy, GP29, Dilson Rassier, provost and vice-president academic, has formed a committee for the appointment of the next Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Learning & Teaching. In response to inputs shared at an online open forum and feedback survey in February, the candidate profile for the role of Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Learning and Teaching (AVPLT) has been adjusted and is now available here.
The search committee for the AVPLT invites applications for this role from internal applicants who hold a continuing academic appointment at Simon Fraser University. Details on the application process are also available in the Candidate Profile document; application deadline is 2:00 PM on Monday, April 28, 2025.
POLICY REVIEW: GP47 Bullying and Harassment Policy and GP18 Human Rights Policy
Policy GP 47, “Bullying and Harassment Policy,” is under the authority of the University Secretary and establishes a framework for education, prevention, and response to bullying and harassment within the University Community, in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety provisions under the Workers Compensation Act. The University Secretary will remain the policy authority for GP 47. New amendments to GP 47 reflect feedback from key partners at the University and would formally document operational updates and align with Sexualized Violence Policy (GP 44) and Human Rights Policy (GP 18) to improve clarity, consistency, and accessibility for the university community.
Policy GP 18, the “Human Rights Policy,” is under the authority of the University Secretary and establishes the Human Rights Office to provide education, advice, and resources to members of the university community, with the goal of reducing and preventing discrimination based on personal characteristics and in alignment with the provincial Human Rights Code. The University Secretary will remain the policy authority for GP 18. New amendments to GP 18 reflect feedback from key partners at the University and would include formally document operational updates made since 2022 to align the policy with current practices, addressing outdated references, and ensuring consistency with the recently updated Sexualized Violence Policy (GP 44). These changes aim to improve clarity and create a coherent framework for understanding and navigating the policy within the university community.
