Dr. Cristiano B. Moura

Assistant Professor, Faculty of Education

Research Interests

My research interests focus primarily on the ways that historical, philosophical and sociological approaches to science can be used to foster justice-centred science education in K-12 and teacher education contexts. I am also interested in understanding the field of research and practice in science education from historical, philosophical, and sociological perspectives. I generally draw on STS (Science and Technology Studies), educational theory, the (Cultural) History of Science, decolonial studies, and voices from the global south in my studies. I have been increasingly interested in exploring scholarship in Environmental Education.

I am usually open to accepting new MA and PhD Students, though it is advisable to contact me before applying.

Research Highlights

The edited volume "A Sociopolitical Turn in Science Education: Towards Post-pandemic Worlds", organized by Cristiano Barbosa de Moura, features a collection of essays that take the COVID-19 pandemic and associated crises as a starting point for examining science education research and practice from a socio-political perspective. The book sets provocations for the science education community, analyzing aspects of its practices, conceptualizations, aims, core values, research traditions, institutions, affectivities, and aesthetics from diverse points of view, and proposing new postures for the future of science education.
