At SFU’s School of Computing Science, artificial intelligence is driving groundbreaking research across machine learning, computer vision, computer graphics, natural language processing, robotics, knowledge representation and reasoning, constraint optimization, and intelligent systems.

Our researchers are pushing the boundaries of AI, from developing machines that understand and interpret the visual world to creating intelligent robots, learning systems, and computational tools that address complex real-world challenges.

SFU VINCI

VINCI is a research institute at SFU focusing on Visual, Interactive, and INtelligent Computing

The Visual, Interactive, and Intelligent Computing Institute (VINCI) is an institute at Simon Fraser University (SFU) that brings together faculty from various departments to collaborate on research and education in the areas of visual computing, interactive computing, intelligent computing (AI/ML), social implications, and domain-specific applications.

SFU Neuro+AI

SFU's Neuro+AI is bringing together neuroscience, neurotechnology, brain imaging, and artificial intelligence to better understand the brain and improve brain health.

The initiative brings together a cluster of researchers from the SFU Institute for Neuroscience and Neurotechnology (INN) and the SFU Visual, Interactive, and Intelligent Computing Institute (VINCI) committed to working at the intersection of brain science and AI.

Faculty Leading AI Innovation in Industry

Associate Professor, Yasutaka Furukawa, is a world-renowned computer vision and machine learning specialist leading the expansion of self-driving car startup Wayve Technologies into Vancouver, B.C.
