Data Collection

The data used in this project was collected primarily from the S: Drive under the Data Warehouse folder. Below is a list of the data that was collected:
  • GVRD Landuse 2001 (collected from S: Drive in the GVRD Landuse folder)
  • GVRD_DEM (collected from Lab 7, used in the MCE for the slope factor)
  • Police Stations (created myself by plotting points of current existing police stations using their addresses found online in the 4 municipalities in ArcMap)
  • BC Major Roads – Freeways, Highways, Major Roads (BCrds.shp collected from S: Drive DTMI folder containing street files of BC 2007)

Data Conversion

ERSI Shapefile To IDRISI
All the files, except GVRD_DEM taken for analysis in this project were ERSI shapefiles. To convert them into IDRISI raster files the shapefiles were first imported into IDRISI and converted to vector files. After this conversion, a cartographic model was used and the RASTERVECTOR modules (pointras, lineras, and polyras) in IDRISI was used to convert the vector files into raster.

Projection
All the ESRI shapefiles were originally in GCS_North_American_1983 projection and had to be projected properly to UTM-10N. To convert these files to the UTM-10N projection, I used the "Project" tool in ArcToolBox. When the files were imported into IDRISI the shapefiles had to be converted again into UTM-10N using SHAPEIDR function.
