Errors

Data
Data collected for this project:

  • GVRD landuse 2001 – landuse might be different after 7 years as population increases and increasing construction projects.
  • BCrds – The definition of major roads need to be refined as some major roads (ie Granville Ave and Railway in Richmond) are not included
  • Police – The original police point file is not accurate and does not have all the police stations which meant that I had to use Editor and label all the points myself
  • GVRD DEM – 2001 file might be slight outdated since we are modifying the landscape as we urbanize

Factors & Constraints
There is a total of 2 constraints and 3 factors which meant that there could be more conditions that can be taken into effect. I choose these 5 conditions because they were the most relevant with the topic and data was readily available. Another thing was that in the process of converting all the data in to factors and constraints I experienced a multiple if different reference systems that needed to be corrected.

Oversimplification is another problem that is very apparent in the analysis. Since, certain aspects are assumed such as street racing taking place at night, on major roads, and in open and sparse locations.

Because of insufficient research and data, much of this analysis is based on assumptions and my own knowledge of the topic.

Other Problems
ArcMap and IDRISI conversion was another problem encountered as distortions were displayed after it was converted when in fact no steps was missed or done wrong. Only after rebooting, was the file back to what it should have been.

Area was used instead of a distance measure to find the top 15 racing areas which might cause distortions in the results even though it was the area of the cell. Much analysis was done on the area tabular chart by hand and some areas had to be filtered out by hand which will certainly cause for some errors.

Filtering the Intersections was another problem I encountered as both filters was picking up all the thick freeways and highways as they are curved causing them to be recognized as intersections as well.
