Oral Cancer, Socioeconomic Status, and Access to Health Care in BC
The injury data were well-correlated to VANDIX
The p-value generated by the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression tool was close to zero, indicating that there is almost no chance the relationship between the 2 input variables is random. The low probability that the relations between patient count and VANDIX score is random represents significant correlation between the counts and SES. The R-squared number (coefficient of determination) represents the percentage of counts that are explained by the explanatory variable, which in this case is the VANDIX score. The OLS output generated a low R-squared value at 0.006 which can be attributed to the large sample size of the injury patients.
The injury data were largely clustered within Downtown Vancouver
The kernel density function generated clusters which almost covered all of Downtown Vancouver. Due to the fact that the injury points are the most dense near Downtown Vancouver, a majority of the top cluster regions were located near the Vancouver centre. Clustering was also discovered in areas within and around Nanaimo, Victoria, Whistler, Kelowna, and Prince George; however not nearly close to the degree discovered in Metro Vancouver.
Furthest distance to treatment centre: Haida Gwaii
These results of travel-time are not accurate because they are clusters of injuries and this project is calculating the travel time to treatment centres providing radiation therapy. The minimum and maximum travel times could be different if oral cancer clusters were used as opposed to injury clusters.
