Department of History - Directed Readings for Undergraduates
HIST 489-4 and HIST 490-4 “Studies in History” allow students to pursue a particular historical problem in greater depth. They will be offered either as individual reading courses or as small seminars, depending upon student and faculty interest. Admission is by consent of instructor and reserved for students who are declared in a History program.
Students interested in this option may approach a faculty member to supervise them in a Directed Readings course. While most of these courses will work towards a large research paper, the precise details of the course will vary by instructor and subject. Courses can be applied to meet group requirements based on the topic of study.
If you have an area of History you would like to study in greater depth, approach instructors who work in that area to see if this might be a good option for you.
To register for Directed Readings or if you have any questions, please contact the Undergraduate Student Advisor: histadav@sfu.ca
