We help cities tackle sustainability challenges. Urban studies professor Meg Holden explores how to make urban neighborhoods more sustainable.
We develop new talent. Computing science professor Uwe Glasser addresses the severe talent shortage in cybersecurity with a new professional master’s program.
We help the world fight climate change. Professor Taco Niet works with governments around the globe helping build capacity and expertise in the fight against climate change.
We’re cleantech trailblazers. SFU won the Top Education Institute Award and the Top Scholar Award at 2021’s BC Cleantech awards.
We open up new economic and scientific frontiers. At our Quantum Algorithms Institute (QAI) Canada Research Chair Stephanie Simmons works with the QAI team on the future of quantum computing.
We help young entrepreneurs succeed. The Charles Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship helps students build their confidence and learn skills to become innovators, entrepreneurs and change makers.
We advance cleantech solutions. Canada Research Chair Majid Bahrami develops sustainable energy projects. His research team won the 2016 Canada Clean50 Award.
We reduce inequality and promote democracy. Communication professor and Canada 150 Research Chair Wendy Chun heads SFU’s Digital Democracies Institute where she works to advance equality, social justice and democratic dialogue.
We help fight COVID-19. Geography professor Valorie Crooks maps COVID-19 risks in B.C. communities to support public health.
We build inclusive communities. Andy Yan, director of SFU’s City Program, studies solutions to COVID-19’s impact on cities and housing.
