SUBMIT PROOF OF VACCINATION BY NOVEMBER 5

If you have declared that you are vaccinated through SFU’s Vaccine Declaration you must now submit a photo of your BC Vaccine Card to show proof of vaccination by Friday, November 5.

This extra step will help us validate the data collected, which will be used to determine whether making vaccination mandatory for faculty and staff will be required.

TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS TO SUBMIT A PHOTO OF YOUR BC VACCINE CARD:

  1. Log into the Thrive website.
  2. Select “Update your vaccination declaration form.”
  3. You will have to reselect your vaccination status: Yes, I am fully vaccinated or No, I am partially vaccinated.
  4. Upload a photo of your BC Vaccine Card.
  5. Check off the acknowledgement and select SUBMIT.

EARLY PLANNING BEGINS FOR PROPOSED SFU MEDICAL SCHOOL

About 160 members of SFU’s community participated in an online session Monday to hear about preliminary planning and to share feedback that will help guide the university as it develops a vision for a proposed medical school. Click the link below to learn more about the proposed school, watch a video presentation of the session and take the survey to help guide the process.

 

To date, $14,840 has been raised for cancer research from this year's Terry Fox week-long event held in September.

There's still time to donate. Deadline is Friday, October 22.

Chemistry professor Steven Holdcroft leads groundbreaking research to harness the power of hydrogen as a clean energy—technologies that could also aid in carbon capture—helping Canada and the world achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Thanks to the SFU community for contributing to campus safety by participating in this morning's Great British Columbia ShakeOut. You can continue the conversation about earthquake preparedness by checking out more safety tips and trying out SFU's very own seismograph, recently installed outside the Department of Earth Sciences. 

 

Despite continued challenges, it is important that we recognize staff members who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the university or their community this past year.

Don't forget to submit your nomination before this year's deadline of Friday, October 29.

In case you missed it, Microsoft Teams is now available at SFU. MS Teams enhances online work by combining chat, video conferencing and modern file-sharing in a single app.

BLACK RADICAL TRADITIONS AND EDUCATIONAL ENCOUNTERS IN CANADA

In the first instalment of SFU History's Highlighting Black Histories series, historian and activist Funké Aladejebi will explore the global reach of Black radicalism and how it changed the language of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements of the 60s and 70s in the Canadian context.

EXPLORING ANTI-RACISM, ALLYSHIP & BELONGING IN THE WORKPLACE

This interactive workshop takes learners on a deep dive to explore racism and white supremacy in our daily lives, including our workplaces. 

Through reflection, discussion, skill-building activities and reviewing historical context, this training will provide participants with a critical lens to recognize how racism manifests in our power systems and everyday interactions. Attendees will also be introduced to tools and resources to support becoming better allies.

SFU's Take Our Kids to Work Day is back in person on Wednesday, November 3. The event allows Grade 9 students to step into their future for a day and get a glimpse into the working world.

This year's activities include a campus tour, marine biology presentation and much more. COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.

International Open Access Week is a global, community-driven week of action to open up access to research. This year’s theme is, It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity.

Celebrate with SFU Library as they share various workshops, activities and resources. 

 

Cheer on our student-athletes at soccer, volleyball and basketball games on campus. The new stadium at Terry Fox Field offers spectacular sightlines, comfortable seats, licensed seating and family areas for exceptional fan experiences. Free admission and parking in West Mall for staff with valid SFU ID. Games are played Thursday and Saturday.

Experience all things strange and spooky at the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology on Burnaby campus. See artifacts from around the world, view SFU Biology's ghastly creatures and discover what lurks in the shadows. All those in costume will be entered to win a prize; those aged 5 and up are welcome.
