SFU’s academic and research partnerships with Indian institutions are diverse, deep and multi-faceted.

Chief among these collaborations are:

Indian Institute of Technology – Bombay

Indian Institute of Technology – Bombay (IIT-B)  is recognized as one of India’s leading technical and research-intensive universities. SFU’s partnership with IIT-B supports student exchange, co-op and internship placements, and joint-research and development collaborations in engineering, health technologies and climate change.

Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi

Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi (IIT-D) is a leader in applied sciences education and research and business innovation in India. SFU and IIT-D’s partnership supports student and faculty exchanges, and academic and research collaboration between both institutions in these domains.

Public Health Foundation of India

Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), in partnership with national and international academic institutions and government agencies, is advancing public health training, and research and policy development. SFU’s Faculty of Health Sciences and PHFI are working together to create student and faculty mobility and research opportunities.

Society for Participatory Research in Asia

The Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) and SFU are working to advance their shared interest in social responsibility and community-engaged research through community-oriented experiential learning and field study opportunities for students in areas such as public health, gender equity and supporting marginalized populations.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and SFU are collaborating to develop student and faculty mobility and research opportunities in a variety of areas, including land-use planning and resource management, access to justice, health, gender equality, and cultural studies.

Zone Startups - India

Zone Startups - India is a world-class venture accelerator in Mumbai, India. SFU’s collaboration with the Bombay Stock Exchange Institute (BSEI), Ryerson University and Ryerson Futures is supporting Indian entrepreneurs with their product development as well as access to funding opportunities and North American markets and programs. In addition, SFU collaborates with BSEI to support students interested in SFU’s master’s program in finance.

Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) supports and promotes social and economic ties between Canada and a number of Asian countries, including India. APF Canada and SFU have partnered to support entrepreneurial student co-ops and internships in India via the SFU India Connect Program. In this program SFU students explore experiential learning opportunities at Zone Startups - India, as well as at one of India’s leading social innovators, the Desphande Foundation.

Indian Oil Corporation

Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) is one of India’s largest companies with a vision to develop green fuel alternatives. SFU and IOCL are collaborating on hydrogen fuel cell and clean energy technology R&D initiatives, supported by PhD student and research exchanges.

Indian Council for Cultural Relations

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) supports and strengthens cultural relations and understanding between India and other countries. A first in western Canada, SFU’s partnership with ICCR creates opportunities to host visiting scholars from India in a wide range of disciplines, supported by the Hari and Madhu Varshney Visiting Scholars Program in Indian Studies.
