BA Art, Performance and Cinema Studies Major, BFA Dance Major, BFA Film Major, BFA Music Major, BFA Theatre (Performance Stream) Major, BFA Theatre (Production and Design Stream) Major, BFA Visual Art Major
This does not apply to minors, extended minors or double majors. Joint majors, second degree and concurrent degree students should check with their departmental advisors.
Every SFU student admitted to a degree program after September 2006 is required to complete Writing, Quantitative and Breadth requirements.
The six majors offered in Contemporary Arts are easily identified by the middle number of the course:

To fulfil the Breadth Humanities requirement, any major can use a CA course numbered outside their major and designated B-HUM. To fulfil the Undesignated Breadth requirement, any major can use a CA course numbered outside their major, labeled B-HUM or not. For example, a Film student can use a visual art course CA (or FPA) 167 B-HUM to meet B-HUM requirement and CA (or FPA) 120 to meet Undesignated Breadth. An example of what would not meet the requirements is if a Theatre performance student used a Theatre production & design course, as it is the same major and would not be considered to be breadth.

Major Admission Requirements
Direct from Secondary School
These applicants come directly fom BC high school 12 or have equivalent high school preparation in accordance with SFU's admission requirements (http://www.sfu.ca/students/admission-requirements/cdn-highschool/bc_yukon.html)
Internal Transfer - Students enrolled in another school/program at Simon Fraser University
Students already admitted to another Simon Fraser University program may apply to transfer into the School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) major after completing:
- MACM 101 or MATH 130 or equivalent (MATH 150, 151, 154, or 157)
- CMPT 120 or equivalent (CMPT 125, 126, 128, 130, 135, or 166)
- Four IAT courses
The transfer process is competitive. Amount of space available for transfers into SIAT varies from term to term. Students with higher interactive arts and technology grade point averages (IAT GPA) and cumulative grade point averages (CGPA) will be selected first. Students with an IAT GPA or CGPA lower than 2.75 are not normally considered. External Transfer - Direct from a recognized Post Secondary Institution
These applicants apply to the School of Interactive Arts and Technology for direct transfer from another post secondary institution in accordance with SFU's admission requirements (http://www.sfu.ca/students/admission-requirements/canadian-transfer/college-university.html).
Admission is selective and a minimum competitive CGPA will be required.

Bachelor of Arts, Joint Major, Interactive Arts and Technology/Bachelor of Business Administration

Minor Admission Requirements
Admission is competitive and based on the cumulative grade point average. Students may apply to the program after completing 18 units which must include 9 lower division IAT units chosen from IAT 100, 102, 103W, 106, 167, 201, 202, 206W, 222, 233, 235, 265 or 267.
Second Degree Admission Requirements
Students must apply for admission to SFU as a degree holder. Students with a first degree from SFU must apply for readmission or reactivation. Once admitted, the initial program status will be "Non-degree seeking." Students wishing to apply for program approval and declaration in a Second Degree must contact the department advisor for the intended major and provide a copy of the first undergraduate degree transcript for assessment of prerequisites if applicable. The advisor and student will then complete a Program Approval form for the Second Degree outlining the specific program requirements. Admission is selective and a minimum competitive CGPA will be required.
Honours Admission Requirements
In order to apply, students must:
- complete the application on the School of Interactive Arts and Technology website
- have higher than a 3.0 CGPA
- have completed IAT 309W
- have a signed letter of support by their proposed faculty supervisor
- have a one-page letter of intent
The Undergraduate Curriculum Chair, School of Interactive Arts and Technology will appointment a selection committee. All applications will be made to siatadv@sfu.ca.
Submitting an Application:
Apply to the honours program one term previous to the admission term.
Before submitting an honours program application, it is recommended that students consult with a SIAT Undergraduate Advisor and review the full requirements of the program.
