FASS Peer Mentorship Program

FASS Peer Mentorship Program provides new SFU students with more experienced FASS student mentors, usually in the same academic program as their mentees. From April to December, mentors act as knowledgeable peers, bridging the gap between new students and faculty, introducing mentees to involvement opportunities (eg. workshops, Departmental Student Unions, etc.) as well as familiarizing students with the campus. Optionally, peer mentors can volunteer with a number of committees to organize mentorship-specific events, create social media content, or develop resources for different groups on campus (eg. International, or undeclared students). Mentors assist faculty wide events such as Welcome Day, Welcome Week, and FASS Camps, to help ease the transition to university for new students.

The time commitment to the peer mentorship program is flexible, but students generally spend approximately ten hours per month on their various responsibilities. This opportunity counts towards mentors’ co-curricular records, and helps them build skills in problem-solving, event-planning and organization.
