Onett Map

The Project

I reinvisioned a town map from the RPG "Earthbound". All elements including trees, buildings, and villagers were recreated in vector format and an isometric view.

Using Adobe Illustrator, I redesigned all the graphical assets of the map as vector illustrations. I grouped major elements into layers for organization and smoother work flow. The entire illustration was completed after a full week of work.

Process

I began the design by recreating each of the assets of the town map. This includes the villagers, buildings, and plant life scattered throughout the town. There are over 20 different types of villagers and 10 different types of buildings in the town.

Sections

Since the map is large and detailed, it was necessary for me to work by breaking up the map into managable sections. I started with the main city and working outwards to the mountain and the forests.

Results

This was my first time creating an illustration with such a high scale and level of detail, but the entire process was fulfilling and rewarding. By creating this illustration, I greatly expanded my skills in illustrator and have a firm grasp of the program's pen tool.
