In order to explore whether not there are any more environmental friendly alternatives in expanding the Trans Mountain Pipeline, a "suitability" map would be made so that all areas that are too valuable to be destroyed would be highligted and potentially avoided.

Using Decision Wizard from Idrisi Selva allows user to create a multi-criteria evaluated map with the desired constrains, fractors, and weights, which the program would then create a "suitability" map that indicates what area fullfill the most criteria listed.

Once the MCE for the potential pipeline building area is created, a cost could be assigned to the suitability index stating that building a pipeline in a insuitable area would have high environmental cost. On the contrary, areas that are far from parks, endangered species habitat and open water would have a lower environmental cost if any unfortunate event happens.

Using model "Pathway" in Idrisi Selva would then calculate the route that has the least value, which would represent the route least environmental impact.
