Dionysios Arkadianos joins the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies

September 05, 2023

The SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies welcomes Dr. Dionysios Arkadianos as our new Digital Learning Specialist at the SNF New Media Lab. Dionysios with also be affiliated with the Department of Global Humanities and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Dionysios successfully completed his PhD defence in April 2023 with a thesis titled, "Difficulty in an online language learning course and its impact on learner tactics and strategies". He is a computational linguist and instructional designer with a focus on online and blended learning environments. He investigates and explores the field where the disciplines of Education and Computer Science converge.

Dionysios has worked, studied and supported the SNF New Media Lab for almost 10 years, as the main developer and pedagogy expert on the SNF-funded "Rebooting the Greek Language Project", which morphed into Staellinika, a free, on-line resource for language training currently officially sanctioned by Greece's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for use among Greeks abroad.

Dionysios has this to say about joining the Centre:

I am really excited to work with the amazing team at the SNF Centre and the Department of Global Humanities, in a position that reflects my academic interests and professional aspirations. Educational technology and instructional design is a field that gained momentum during the pandemic and altered the educational paradigm in post-secondary education. I am looking forward to further investigating the potential of technology implementation in the courses of the department and exploring new, engaging learning experiences for our students both in the University and the world over.
