Now in its 27th year, the Institute for the Humanities explores critical perspectives relating social concerns to the cultural and historical legacy of the humanities. The Institute is committed to the idea of studying pressing contemporary problems; it also aims at promoting greater interaction between the University and the community and providing links between these two constituencies.
The Institute is currently engaged in a project called Imagining Citizenship that focuses on issues of citizenship from the perspective of the humanities. Study groups are currently meeting to discuss the idea of citizenship in relation to the environment, culture, social justice, religion, modernity and the university. These groups include both academics and other members of the community, and their deliberations are being presented in a number of public events.
